February 5, 2010

I trust that all of you attended and learned something from the forum this morning. Issues similar to what Prof. Bello raised in the forum and in his book “Food Wars” will be tackled in the class when we will start discussing Karl Marx.

In connecting with this I am requiring you to submit the a one page reaction paper next meeting, 9 February Tuesday. Format should be, single spaced and with one inch margin on all slides. I will collect the papers as soon as the class will start and I will not accept late students’ paper. This requirement will be counted as part of your quiz. In addition, if you still have issues to raise that you were not able to raise in the forum, and you think the class can help address this, you may as well present it to the class next meeting.

For Pol. Sci. 193 alternative class activity

February 4, 2010

We will not hold a class tomorrow but I will require you to be present on an alternative activity. There is a forum on “Food Wars: How the west created the global food crisis” by Professor Walden Bello, February 5, 2010, at the MILC, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM.

Professor Bello is presenting his new book on the same title. You can find the information about the book and the author by clicking the links below.

February 1, 2010

Our earlier scheduled meeting will be cancelled. In addition, for Thursday, February 4, you are to submit a revised version of Chapter 1, Chapter 2 and the tools, categories, survey questionnaire or any other instrument that you will need for you research.

In preparing the instruments please note the following

A. make sure that your questions clearly relates to every element or component of the concepts you are investigating.
B. The front page of the questionnaire should be a cover letter, either in English or Hiligaynon explaining briefly, in layman’s term if need be, what your study is all about, then politely asking for their time to answer it.

Notes on Chapter 1 submission.

Basically your chapter one is going to be a revised version of your proposal. Previously one of you asked about the methodology part, that part is going to be sketched out fir chapter two. While you may have submitted your own proposed chapter breakdown, most of it was rather unenlightened.

Do not forge the following points.

1. The parts of chapter one, modified from your proposal, are the following; introduction, research problem, review of related literature, conceptual framework including the conceptual diagram.

2. Make sure that you carefully review the comments on your earlier submission. If you do not intend to follow that to the detail, I strongly suggest you decide early not to be part of the class anymore. I hate to read works that look like photocopies of your old submissions.

3. Other improvements that must be included are the following;
a. Be consistent with the use of your headings and subheadings. These are supposed to indicate the flow and the hierarchy of your discussion. Know when to indent, use letters and numbers instead of bold fonts.
b. Your conceptual discussion must be tied to your review, so as your conceptual diagram.
c. Review you citation and bibliography, make sure it is consistent with APSA format.
d. Submit the soft and hard copy on time.

4. It should be from 20-25 pages.
