SIR/MADAM:

The non-stock, non-partisan, non-governmental organization of the Political Science Students’ Association of the Philippines (PSSAP), is convening the Third National Convention on January 28-30, 2011 at Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology, Iligan City.

This caucus will serve as an arena for the students of politics in the Philippines to confer new ideas and learn innovative schemes in politics, deliberate and formulate resolutions concerning the critical issues in various fora. It will be an opportunity for political science students to engage on a profound level of discussions, promote a growth of discipline and develop a common vision for the future of our country.

With the theme Youth Participation in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), this convention aims to converse how to Eradicate Extreme Poverty, Achieve Universal Primary Education, Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women, Reduce Child Mortality Rate, Improve Maternal Health, Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, Ensure Environmental Sustainability and Build-up a Global Partnership for Development.

In line with this, we would like to invite you and your fellow Political Science students to attend the third national convention. A minimal registration fee will be charged per participant, Full Convention Package: includes food (5 meals excluding breakfasts), kit, identification card, souvenir and certificates – On the day registration (Php 1,350.00) Early Registration (1,150.00). For the purposes of this event, early registration is defined as one (1) month before the actual conducts of the event. Early bird registration will be paid through a Banco De Oro account of the Political Science Students’ Association of the Philippines.

Advisory for Convention Participants

Date

Venue

MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology

All sessions will be held in MSU-IIT. The plenary sessions, open forum, team building activities as well as the opening and closing ceremonies, will be held in the Mini-theater of MSU-IIT, while the competition activities will be held in the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) of MSU-IIT.

Convention Attire

The attire for all the sessions and activities throughout the convention will be semi-formal apparel while beachwear or swimwear is the appropriate attire during the last night of the convention.

Moreover, participants are not allowed to wear slippers during sessions and activities.

Accommodations

Participants are advised to make their own travel and accommodations arrangements.   The conference registration fee does not cover hotel accommodations.  Please make your reservations separately and personally with the hotel / pension house of your choice.

Iligan City offers a wide range of accommodation, from big and small hotels to cozy pension houses. Conference Sessions

The registration starts at 8:00 am of January 28, 2010 while the conference will start promptly at 8:00 am of January 29, 2010.  Please be mindful of the schedule of the concurrent and plenary sessions throughout the Conference.

Participants
All Political Science students and alumni can take part in the activities included in the convention.

All participants are required to pay the convention registration fee. Payment can be made at the Registration Desk during the first day of the convention.

National Extemporaneous Speaking Contest

Mechanics:

  1. The contest is open to all legitimate students of Political Science of academic institutions in the Philippines
  2. Each educational institution is allowed to send one participant.
  3. Contestants will have five (5) minutes to prepare their speech once they have selected

their contest subject.

  1. The question must be stated in the exact words before the speech begins or as part of the

speech. The contestant must hand the question to the judge before beginning to speak.

  1. Contestants will draw topics at seven (7) minute intervals and have only five (5) minutes

for preparation. No one is allowed to consult with the contestant after they have selected

a topic.

  1. Participants must present their speech within three (3) to five (5) minutes of selecting the topic.
  2. No materials may be utilized by participant to prepare for the presentation, except paper

and pencil.

  1. Each contestant will be permitted to make notes during the preparation time.
  2. Extemporaneous speeches will be judged on the following criteria: content, organization and delivery.
  3. The decision of the judges will be final and irrevocable.

National Quiz Show

Mechanics:

  1. The contest is open to all legitimate students of Political Science of academic institutions in the Philippines
  2. Each educational institution is allowed to send one (1) team, composed of three (3) participants.
  3. Questions will come from all subjects under Political Science and Governance. Fifty per cent will be focused on Philippine context, and the other half will be devoted to the international context.
  4. The contest will be divided into three parts, the Easy, Average and Difficult Rounds. Ten (10) questions will be asked in the easy round, fifteen in the average round and twenty (20) in the difficult round.
  5. Easy Questions are worth 1 point, Average Round questions are worth 2 points and difficult questions are worth 3 points.
  6. Contestants are asked to answer the question in an illustration board provided by the organizers.
  7. The time limit per question is 10 seconds.
  8. After the said contest, the team garnering the highest points will be declared as winner.
  9. Any of the contestants can raise a protest before a three-man panel of judges.
  10. The members of the panel of judges will be selected by the organizing committee, ten days prior to the conduct of the event.
  11. The decision of the judges will be final and irrevocable.

National Essay Writing Contest

Mechanics:

  1. The contest is open to all legitimate students of Political Science of academic institutions in the Philippines
  2. Each educational institution is allowed to send one participant.
  3. The participant must be present ten minutes before the event. Otherwise, s/he will automatically be disqualified.
  4. The subject to be discussed will be announced during the contest proper.
  5. All essays will be written in English and shall consist of at least 400 to 600 words.
  6. The essay will be judged according to the content, originality, structure and style.
  7. The decision of the judges will be final and irrevocable.
    Inter-University Debate Competition

Mechanics:

  1. The contest is open to all legitimate students of Political Science of academic institutions in the Philippines
  2. Each educational institution is allowed to send one (1) team, composed of three (3) participants.
  3. The Asian Parliamentary Debate Format will be used in the entire duration of the competition
  4. All the internationally accepted rudiments of Asian Parliamentary Debate Format shall be adopted by the organizing committee.

    hello po! i am marie chielo ybio, a pol sci student from silliman university. three of us from our school are attending the convention. i would like to verify the cost of the registration fee. in our letter received, it is P 2, 750.00 and in this homepage, it’s only P 1 k plus. i would also like to verify the accommodation.
